Every product, individually identified with RFID tagging

An RFID label or tag gives each individual product its own unique digital identity in the form of a serialized code embedded in a tiny chip and antenna, readable by radio. No line of sight, no scanning one item at a time.

The biggest use-case for RFID?
RFID enables hundreds of tagged products to be wirelessly counted in seconds. They can be scanned through shopping bags as customers walk out of a store, or within boxes on pallets in a warehouse.

There is no doubt, RFID is the future!
Retailers now require it. Walmart mandates RFID tagging across most general merchandise categories, and in Canada, Canadian Tire, SportChek, and almost any large retailer now require RFID tags on specified merchandise from their vendors.

If you supply product for any form of major retail, RFID is becoming a requirement! (And the list of retailers is growing, not shrinking.)

Companies that adopt item-level RFID routinely lift inventory accuracy from around 65% to 95% or better.

FAQ for RFID

Answers to the questions we see most often. You can also contact us directly, we're here to help.

RFID (radio-frequency identification) puts a tiny chip and antenna, which is called an inlay, and lives inside a printed label or tag.

A reader identifies every tagged item by radio, with no line of sight required, at ranges up to about 20 feet for UHF tags.

Hundreds of items can be read at once, which is why counts that took days with barcodes take minutes with RFID.

Most retailer mandates (Walmart, Canadian Tire, SportChek) require passive UHF (RAIN) tags, encoded to GS1’s SGTIN-96 standard, using an inlay approved for your product’s spec category by the Auburn University RFID Lab (ARC certification).

Send us the mandate letter and we’ll translate it into exactly what your products need.

No. The barcode still handles checkout; the RFID tag handles inventory and supply-chain visibility. Retailer-compliant tags carry both – the UPC barcode and the encoded RFID chip on one label.

UHF reads at long range in bulk – it’s the supply chain and retail compliance technology.

NFC reads at tap distance and works with any modern smartphone – it’s for consumer engagement, authentication, and interactive packaging. We print and encode both, and they can work together on the same product.

A barcode identifies a product type – every unit of the same SKU scans the same. Serialization gives each individual unit its own unique number (your GTIN plus a serial, forming an SGTIN) written into the chip. That’s what makes item-level tracking, authentication, and precise recalls possible.

Yes – that’s our specialty. The inlay embeds into custom-printed labels, hang tags, stickers, and packaging in almost any size, shape, or format, without changing how your product looks.

Materials matter (metal and liquids affect radio performance), so we select and test the right inlay for your application before full production.

It depends on the inlay, size, material, and volume – but prices have fallen sharply as adoption has scaled. For standard formats at volume, think cents per label, not dollars. Against the cost of losing a retail listing, or of inventory you can’t find, the math usually favours tagging.

Send us your specs and volumes and we’ll quote it straight.

RFID programs typically run in the thousands of units and up – that’s where per-label pricing makes sense, and it’s the scale we’re built for. Whether you’re piloting one SKU or tagging an entire catalogue, tell us your formats and volumes and we’ll map the run.
